Home Builders Association of Maryland Builder Mart 1998
|
|
Every spring, in the Cow Palace of the Maryland State Fairgrounds, the Home Builders Association of Maryland holds their annual Builder Mart and Bull & Oyster Roast. Called "the best building trade show on the east coast", the HBAM Builder Mart is a yearly opportunity for members of the home building industry to look for new ideas, say hello to old friends, network with business associates, and meet those unseen voices on the phone. Of course, pit beef and oysters are probably two more reasons a lot of people attend each year. I wonder if any of the critters on the right will be attending the bull roast next year?

This year was the largest show ever with 268 vendors displaying their products and services to over 6,900 visitors who make their living in the home building industry. Walking up and down the long aisles, one can see just about everything; bricks, doors, windows, nail guns, toilets, lumber suppliers, architects, truss manufacturers, cabinets, molding suppliers, lenders, pest control companies, waterproofing materials, granite, insulation, CADD systems, marble, paints, fireplaces, steel studs, and even the proverbial kitchen sink.

This "custom designed model home" built by Surface Technology Corporation out of different colors and selections of Dupont Corian® , was one of my favorite displays. They were also holding a drawing to give away a Corian putter.
Many exhibitors will enter your name in a contest to win a sample of their products or let you pick a key out of a box to see if it opens the treasure chest with Orioles ballgame tickets inside. Frequently, all one needs to do is drop a business card in a fish bowl to enter. Of course you can then expect to receive a phone call or an information packet from the vendor in a week or two.
